On Saturday, Oct. 14th, the 2nd Annual AGWA IL Chapter
H Chili Cook
Off was held at Johnson Mound forest preserve in Elburn,
IL. The
event was attended by approximately 50 Illinois AGWA
members and friends
of AGWA.
The event was once again organized by Ken & Analea
Archibald, who
did their usual great job (we are really spoiled -
THANK YOU KEN &
ANALEA).
The weather was absolutely picture perfect - almost
too perfect, because
it fostered a large number of uninvited guests - Lady
Bugs! They
were everywhere & thankfully seemed to prefer
biting motorcyclists,
rather than dive bombing the chili! What ever
happened to good old
fashioned ants at a picnic???
Once again, a competition was held for the following
chili categories:
1. Spiciest
2. Most Unique
3. Best Overall
It was tough deciding, but the winners were:
1. Spiciest: "Robin" (April's significant other)
2. Most Unique: Sue Hanus for her "Tequila Sunrise" concoction
3. Best Overall: Wanda Densmore
In addition to eating, we actually tried some "healthy"
activities -
baseball & horseshoes. Cary's son Matt quickly
wore us out playing
baseball, so we switched to horseshoes. Les
Chapman's team was undefeated
until the dynamic duo of Jim Garner and Dick Scalpone
upset the Chapman
juggernaut. The Garner/Scalpone team went on
to NARROWLY (21-20)
defeat a team comprised of Pat Ciston and Dawn Garner
(by the way, Les
is protesting the victory - he said you have to win
by "two". Poor
guy is taking hard).
One AGWA member - Steve Bergman, rode over 300 miles
from the Quincy,
IL area just for the chili! To top it off.,
after dessert, he rode
back!! Now there's someone who loves to ride
and eat chili!
Thank you to all who attended and we look forward to
hosting this event
again next year!
Ride Safe!
