On Sunday, July 22, 2001, a day that brought the highest heat index of the year (105), almost 200 people attended the seventh annual AGWA-IL Chapter H "Christmas In July" Poker Run. This event is held every year to raise funds for various local charities and individuals. Last year, this event raised almost $4000 that was distributed to local charities and individuals.
The route, designed by Chapter H's Joel Gyurnek, wound it's way through 120 miles of Northwest Illinois countryside and was completed safely by all riders.
After completing the run, the riders enjoyed a lunch of "burgers and dogs" with all the trimmings while listening to tunes and the one liner jokes of our Master of Ceremonies - Jim Garner. Once everyone had enough to eat, they took advantage of the many fine bargains to be found at the silent auction table and the "Chapter H Garage Sale" table.
In addition to the many prizes raffled off, the following groups/individuals won prizes:
Largest Club/Chapter in attendance: GWRRA - Illinois
Chapter G2
Oldest Male in attendance: Anonymous - age 69
Oldest female in attendance: Anonymous - age 84
Oldest bike in attendance: 81 Goldwing
This year we told "Lucky" Joel Gyurnek to give someone else a chance at winning the 50-50. He agreed and let his wife Carolyn win!
AGWA-IL Chapter H would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to Ken & Analea Archibald and Joel Gyurnek for once again working so hard to make this year's event another big success!
Finally, AGWA-IL Chapter H would like to thank all
the folks who attended the event and the many sponsors who helped make
this event possible. Please keep an eye on our web site http://www.christmasinjuly.org/
for an update on the total amount raised by this year's event and a list
of this year's sponsors / contributors.
Ride Safe!
